The other day I was interviewing somebody at the http://n3rd4u.com secret lair and offered my guest a drink from the bar. When I realized that I had a unique collection of drinks that one generally takes neat, I was asked to make a concoction that I knew not how to make. I whipped out my trusty HTC Evo Android phone, popped on to the Amazon-Android Market and discovered Mixologist™by Digital Outcrop.
This handy little app not only saved the day, it has a unique feature, where by you tell it what you have in your liquor cabinet, from all the liquors, aperitifs, cordials, and mixing ingredients you may have at room temperature or in the fridge. Once you have all this information, it will then tell you what drinks are available with your ingredients on hand. This was amazing, and I was able to create a Grapefruit Gin-Ricky with the unique liquors & fresh (from tree) products I had on hand.
Digital Outcrop has this app available for both the iOS devices and Android platform.
From Digital Outcrop’s website:
Browse and search through 7,900+ drink recipes and 1,300+ ingredients.

Drink categories include Cocktails, Martinis, Shooters, Jell-O Shots, Hot Drinks, Punches, Non-Alcoholic Drinks, and Favorite Recipes.

The “Liquor Cabinet” tab lets you enter all the liquor and mixer types you have on hand—and find all the cocktails you’re able to make.

The “Random” tab has a slot machine interface, which lets you find random recipes based on liquor, mixer, and glassware criteria.

The Cabinet and Random features are user-friendly because we’ve broken down 1,300+ ingredients into 87 categories.

Find the closest liquor stores using GPS &Google Maps.

If you have more then a few bottles of liquor in your home, you owe it to yourself to pickup this app. I have books, and have had other bartending programs, but they’re all a bit too confusing and by the time you find something, too much time has passed, and your guest(s) have resorted to something else, but not what they’ve initially asked for. With Mixologist™, not only can you make a proper offer to one’s guest(s) but also within mere moments, you have the recipe on hand, as you’re grabbing your goods to start mixing. This is a lifesaver and I feel even if you have a degree in Bartending this little app is the ultimate go to guide and for only $0.99 you really can’t go wrong.
